This will be a course for advanced players wherein the main focus isn't on acquisition and embellishment of the school tunes, but mastering the technical aspects of playing in various Irish fiddle styles.
The tunes taught in the course will not be the same as the school tunes. Students will be expected to pick up both the school tunes and the tunes for this course outside of class - we won't be learning tunes phrase by phrase during the course. Instead we will be spending class time exploring rhythm, quality of tone, phrasing, variation, ergonomics, and most importantly, history!
Given the nature of this class, it is recommended only for students who are not sufficiently challenged by the current Advanced Fiddle courses at the school. Also, students who may not have sufficient time for practice throughout the week may have difficulty keeping pace.
